Sh....shiny. Sniper's ass. SHINY.

I noticed there's a lot of detail in the, uh, liquids... And it looks really good. It sort of stands out, though, because the level of detail in the small areas versus large areas contrasts so much.

But oh man. Your medics are sexy as always.

I rarely do guro, as it usually doesn't turn my crank and I don't want depictions of gore in my pictures to inspire a banal reaction, (from myself, mostly) but I did enjoy working on this one quite a bit. I only wish I'd given the Medic with the saw a more bland smile.

The pairing that I still love the most. I don't draw as much art of the Heavy as I'd like, because his sheer size makes it difficult to come up with interesting poses for him where you can still see his face and/or the face of the other participant. Also, for the bored and interested, I now have a dumblr page to clutter up with all of my scribblings- it's http://yangpuppy.dumblr.com . Just replace the 'd' with a 't'.

It wasn't out yet when she made the comment. Besides, sometimes you'll turn to heal them, and they'll zip right out of your line of vision, so you end up just looking like a dork. I think that's what she means, and it's a lot more annoying. Especially if you've mained Medic for a while.

Do ho ho ho ho. I am always happy to please others, and while I'm not really a huge gore artist, I try to do my best at anything I do. I've always sort of had the idea that the Medic wasn't big into gory sex, but that he has a religious enthusiasm for his own unique brand of medicine. If we're imagining him to be a complex character, he must be very good at compartmentalizing his emotions while he transitions from one task to another throughout the day.

>>2030

Though it isn't obvious, Engi is really upset here because the Medic doesn't seem to want very much help from him. For a mad scientist, this is like being invited to a circle-jerk and then being made to watch the other guy masturbate in front of you. Maybe even better.

Also, I realized this morning that I'd forgotten the graphic effect on the ECG. I fixed it elsewhere, but I'm loathe to spam this place with my stuff and thought someone might want to see a version of it without the heavier lighting filter I added.

Aww, you guys. I've tried to avoid doing too much sissification in my art, just because it gets old fast and can kind of weaken a picture- I want my fanart to relate at least a little to canon, rather than just being pictures of a sissy old man in a dress. It's not to say that I don't like it, I just don't want to be boring or un-funny. It's the same reason that I only did one picture of a TF2 character dressed as a sailor scout. He's supposed to be saying something coy like, "Herr Heavy, don't make me beg."

This took me forever, largely because of the pose. I'm still not sure if the Heavy's expression is too derpy, but other people didn't seem to think it detracted, and I hate making porn pictures that involve a 'person' and a 'faceless source of penis'.

Alright, you want concrit? I'll leave you concrit.

Stop what you are doing with those faces right now and think about facial structure a bit more. Heavy's seems too wide, there seems to be almost too much definition on the way you draw them (especially around the lips.) Also take the time to learn how torsos work. The way you draw them is far too short. The colours are fine. Also around the knees in the OP picture, there seems to be too much definition again. It's a hard choice between stylistic art and making something look realistic. You seem to be stuck somewhere in the middle.

TL;DR Pick up an anatomy book and draw their faces from a reference first, before trying it the way you are.
>> No. 2400
>>2398
No, seriously, look at the size of the torso on that medic. Taking into consideration the size of his butt, it's way too small, especially in comparison to the length of his limbs. There's no room for his internal organs to be inside of it comfortably.

It's a similar problem I have with the sniper in >>2339. It's way too V-shaped and isn't large enough to hold anything. Along with the previous guy's statements, those are the main issues I have with your work. I do like the more angular style you have as well as your use of color.

Alright here is some actual reference for you to use instead of just bashing

Here is some Andrew Loomis.
http://alexhays.com/loomis/

Here is some Burne Hogarth.
http://tinyurl.com/42pqafj
http://tinyurl.com/3cnvggx

Here is some George Bridgeman.
http://tinyurl.com/3ocs4yt
http://tinyurl.com/4x95wd6
http://tinyurl.com/3dhkdap

You have a great sense of anatomy already, but that's nothing if your sense of proportion is wrong. Your torsos are way too short, is the main thing. Work on face structure, draw some skulls, draw from reference, etc. The way you draw forearms, wrists, and hands is off. To me, it looks like the character has no wrists at all, it's just hands attached to the radius and ulna.

Also the way you outline every single muscle with such eye-raping clarity is jarring. If you changed the lineart color from solid black to a darker flesh color, it wouldn't be such a shock to my eyes.

Your colors and sense of lighting is okay. I'm glad that you use reflective lighting.

Just tone down your want to clarify and define everything, study some anatomy books, study porn, draw from life, etc.

Flipping your canvas horizontally will help you find mistakes.

these are really good resources, but don't bother trying to read hogarth's writing in his books if you plan on getting it, it's real bullshit (as one of my art teachers have said)

I'm also going to suggest Eliot Goldfinger's anatomy book. It's geared more towards sculptors, but it's still a great resource nonetheless

I don't have much else to contribute since everyone else has said what I wanted to say

Alright, some concrit. Demoman's feet are screwy. Also his right shoulder is out of place and his wrist is too thick when it should taper some more. The location of Sniper's penis almost looks like it's been dismembered given the placement of his hands.

A bit catty, but this is closer to constructive criticism; if I didn't want concrit, would I be posting here? I've gotten a lot of useful criticism in the past, and it's helped me to improve my art. I use model reference extensively when drawing the characters' faces, just as I use anatomy reference, (and even anatomy books!) but it's not always possible to just copy a pose from a photo, and like everyone, I make mistakes. I drew the OP picture back at the start of June, so I don't think I'll go back and touch it up now, though. Personally, I always liked the exagerrated faces, though I probably could have done a better job on the Heavy's arm and knees. Gauging torso length is something I do have trouble with, and I appreciate the feedback from the people who brought it up without the arrogant snippy crap.

>>2400
Now, that's more like it! Was that so hard? You stated a technical problem you saw with my artwork in a way that actually explained the issue, rather than just coming across as rude bullshit. You could have done that when you first started posting in my thread, but this is a learning process. Despite your childishness, you did inspire me to go back and touch my most recent picture up a bit, and I feel a lot more satisfied with the way it looks, now.

>>2401
Perry, you are always helpful, honest, and you don't ruin anything you have to say by being obnoxious. Foreshortening is the bane of my existance, and despite repeatedly trying to gauge and regauge the foreshortening on the Medic in my latest, the results were somewhat off. In the past, I would have put it in /workshop/ first, but I'd found that the only people offering critique of my stuff seemed to only do it on this board, so I stopped trying.

>>2402
I appreciate getting honest criticism and feedback, especially on that nebulous thing called 'style'. I've done a lot of searching in recent months, trying to find good anatomy reference resources and ways to get a better handle on muscle proportions; I downloaded the Loomis figure drawing book you linked, and will have to take a look at the others. I've struggled to get better at drawing joints, but as I've started to understand the mechanics behind the human figure, I have started to feel more confidence in how I am rendering knees, ankles, wrists and forearms. I'm not perfect, but I draw because I want to get better. Linework is another thing that I'm wrestling with, and I've been trying to find different ways to render things without the heavy lines. I see artists drawing with very heavy line weights, and others who use very light line weights, and neither look entirely satisfactory when I try them myself; I hate spending hours picking away at a drawing that's basically finished because something about it doesn't look 'right' to me, and the best way I've found to identify mistakes is by having a person who hasn't been staring at it all day take a look and tell me what's wrong. I'll have to remember the 'flip the canvas' trick to help me in identifying mistakes earlier.

>>2412
I appreciate your feedback, but I'll confess that words like 'screwy' don't really give me a solid idea of what you're trying to point out. I ended up adjusting the Demoman's arms and shortening his legs a bit, and repositioning the Sniper's arms on your suggestion.

Just FYI, we're all (supposed) to be adults here. Please act like one. Thanks.
I understand each one of you children have already been addressed by the OP, but I could not contain my art student rage in silence furthermore.

Thank you very much for providing this nice list of must-reads. I love you.

Two in the morning, snipey little bitch rant. My apologies, I'm used to dealing with Sparkledog artists that throw a fit even if they've asked for concrit.

I try my best, thank you so much! I understand the struggle with foreshortening, it's hard to get into. I'm not sure if we have enough perspective reference in the sticky in /workshop/ - If you need stuff, ask right away, I have resources.
Your last picture wasn't perfect either, but this one clearly shows that you need to practice perspective more. My props for trying a difficult angle, keep at it. Just because it came out hella wonky this time doesn't mean it won't work out in the future.

You should post more in /workshop/. It's seriously a board more people need to look at. Hopefully more people will reply to your search for help since they saw now that you really want it.

Keep it up!

Just a few more things

http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php

http://www.posemaniacs.com/thirtysecond

http://lovecastle.org/draw/

Doing these for a few minutes each day will help you break your problem of jacked proportion.

also DO NOT BE AFRAID TO LOOK UP REFERENCE

You may think that looking up photo reference on google is cheating, but trust me it's not.

Have you ever heard those people who think that making digital art with a tablet is cheating, or using photoshop tools is cheating? As long as you're not flat out tracing or recoloring, there's no reason to be afraid of using resources that are there to make things easier for you.

And to be honest, I was part of the group on Hipstr that started the drama. I can't speak for rest when I say this, but I'm deeply sorry. What we did was very childish and immature.

I appreciate you keeping almost all of your childish nonsense to yourselves, but please don't waste my time with it. Not to be dramatic, (and honestly, this is about the most polite and subdued drama I've ever had to deal with) but this sort of sophomoric retardation really kills my enjoyment of places like this, and I'm not alone.

A few of you are being assholes in this thread for no real reason, and a whole lot of you have jumped in on the bandwagon.

Using "critique" as a guise to be an outright asshole to people doesn't fly here. This will be enforced with zero tolerance bans.

If you think a piece of artwork is bad, either you give critique, which does NOT include being a jackass, or you don't comment, keep scrolling, or hell, report it. Do NOT start a shitslinging session over someone's art because you think it's bad.

People willingly put their art on the boards for others to see, it is by all means not an invitation for shitslinging. /afanart/ is an art board for one, and people DO want crits, REAL crits. And if you are going to be an asshole about it, then don't post.

If people didn't want to improve, then they would go somewhere where replies aren't enabled, or places like dA. Instead, they post here on the Chan, where crit is EXPECTED. Yes it has been a little lax lately, but being a jackass is never a crit, and never will be.

And no, this is not to say that artists are allowed to get away with things, either.

To put it in a nutshell. Stop whining, stop the asshole remarks, crit /with content/, and enjoy the art.

So you think criticism is childish nonsense? It may sound harsh, but people are actually trying to help you improve.

I've got nothing else to say about this dumb mess, so let's just pull our feet out of our mouths and move on, yes?

Demoman's foot is still extremely boxy and stiff-looking. I'd redline but my Photoshop is borked and I can't find my tablet.

Wow, late to the party, much, self?

I'm not exactly sure what happened, but at this point, Yang, do you think it would be a good idea to start a new thread on /afanart/ so that you don't have to scroll through all of that really hateful stuff anymore? I'm just thinking it'd be the best thing to do at this point, but eh.
