Alright, /workshop/, I've been trying out a new style but it just seems very... off.

I can't put my finger on it, but this picture just doesn't seem right.

Any tips/thoughts are appreciated! :)

You've shown a pretty good grasp of volume and proportion so far, but the shading needs to be even more extreme and the proportions more closely reflect the original reference.

- Shadowed areas should be even darker, using complementary colors instead of just more saturated hues. Then, to better define the volume, add a little bit of a rim highlight to the dark side.
- Give Scout more muscle definition besides in his arms.

- Scout's eyes are crooked, even if they're supposed to be almond-shaped in this picture.
- The face is, skull aside, rather box-shaped, and the potion of the face that the eyes, nose mouth are in should face distinctively forward, especially in 3/4ths view.
- The proportions of the face should be in rough thirds: hairline to brow, nose, bottom of the nose to chin. Scout's nose is, therefore, too low on his face.
- His chin also needs more definition. TF2 is a game full of Manry Men and Manry Jawlines of Masculinity, even on Scout. Generally, I also don't color lips on men since that gives the appearance of wearing makeup, but that's more of a personal preference.
- His cheekbones are, ironically enough, too well defined, making him look like he hasn't had a proper meal in ages. Smooth out some of that shading.
- His back and shoulders look a bit too high on his body, but that might vary from person to person. Consult pictures of shirtless dudes to get a better idea of how it's supposed to be proportioned.

I'm Amanda, I'm new to the fandom, I've been lurking tf2chan for awhile now, but I was waaaaaay to shy to post anything. But, I'm over it and I'd really like to contribute to the site.

I really do appreciate criticism, and just art discussion in general, so go ahead and critique me. I'm an art student so I can take it. Also, I'm generally new to photoshop, so it would certainly be helpful! My art in photoshop is relatively simple right now, so it would be nice to improve.

I'm just gonna upload a ton of fanart I've been working on lately.

Oh my god I totally understand "dicks everywhere" now.

I was fucking around on the tf2 wiki with goggles, Then I used it as the basis for the picture above. To be honest, I really like it, i like it a lot. I actually like it more than the final piece.

Remember how eons ago I made a 10th class, the Revolutionary?

I finished him, finally. Viva la revolución!

No, you are damn right. I am kicking myself for all those tangents right now! (That AK-47 was very last minute and I think I might just chuck it in favor of a pistol or something else.) At least he looks practical and has an okay concept. I'm probably gonna have to run him through a few more times to give him a more distinct look.

Also, damn it. I had a feeling I was posting this in the wrong area.

Like most OC's of new classes, I'm curious what his use would be in battle.
Other than the fact that he uses an automatic, his importance is pretty vague.
>> No. 6312
Hey. I said interesting concept. I'm not going as far as to call it "good" until I know how he's supposed to work.
The banner, title, and unspectacular weapon [at least by comparison to other classes] makes me want to guess that he's some sort of moral support class. Perhaps taking the Soldier's buff horns to new levels?

I have two bits of critique for this pic. First, that Pyro's lower suit seems a tad too wrinkly looking; they're wearing a heavy rubber suit, so their wouldn't be so many small, fine wrinkles, if that makes sense. The suit could also use smoother shading as the suit type doesn't seem to have much texture.
Secondly, the overall shading isn't done in such a way that suggests light is coming from the bonfire/fire crackers. For example, the wall to the Pyro's left seems to be cast in shadow where the firecracker should be casting light on it, while seeming to be lit up just around the corner. A similar problem with shading is also present in Demoman and Pyro themselves; the sides of them that are facing us should be shaded, as the light source is behind them in respect to us.
All and all, though, I think this picture's very good, especially in the lineart and overall texturing. Honestly, until I looked more closely, I thought you had lifted the background from the game itself, haha. Keep up the good work, man! Just remember to keep an eye on where light and shadows should fall.

Well, I'm quite new to drawing as well as the 'Chan and I'd like some constructive criticism. I'd love to have some advice on improvements from you all since other sites which have any interest in art only reply stuff along the lines of: "OMG SO KAWAIII!" or like "That's nice." I never seem to get any fleshed out critique.

I really don't get how light and shadows work, so I'd like it if someone could give me an example on how they'd work. Any redlines are welcome.

I did post in /workshop/ but it seems like a ghost town there, so I thought this here would be better.

Thanks for the Redline! Its just now that I finally realized a quite some stuff was out of place.

You don't have to, but if you really want to write a whole critique you can take your time.

I don't run that server. Sorry.

Though I might want to start my own once I find some way to get the money...
