That is the Iron Cross, a Nazi version to our "Medal of Honor", award to Germans recognized for their exceptional battlefield bravery or successful leadership. The design actually first appeared in World War I in the Prussian military and was adopted in 1939 into the Nazi regime.

You can learn more about the history of the award here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Cross#Grand_Cross_of_the_Iron_Cross_.281939.29
>> US No. 10802
>>10801

Is it really tied to the Nazis if they used it in WWI and still use it today? I know Germans go out of their way not to do anything associated with the war.
>> US No. 10803
>>10802

I guess it depends on the design of the Iron Cross, as I've seen variations associated with biker clubs and whatnot. Most people will probably think on that instead of being something from WWII, unless they're big into history, etc.

What a way to start the New Year, I lost me credit card and I'm afraid it's somewhere in the laundry. Now I'm afraid of getting chewed out by my parents about how I should keep track of my things, especially things as important as a credit card

Well I'll be damned, the person only turned theirs in late. I think it's cute, but I really don't know what to say; from the start I wasn't expecting to get one after all, you know? Guess it doesn't need to be made up for.

In other news, I really really wanna meet with a friend in Connecticut sometime, but her family hates me after I tried saving her life by calling the police (they don't like police, long story) and she can't stand my family because of the excessive noise they make while I'm on skype calls, as well as a conflict in interests that leads her to believe my family's a bunch of assholes. That and neither of us have plane ticket money. Maaan, my sister gets to have friends over from other states, why can't I meet with my long-distance friends too?

Kilo was never the problem - they're actually pretty cool about ponies. It's just not worth the hate that sometimes comes with it. Don't be obnoxious, bro(nie). This just ain't the place for it.

Oh, wait. Just noticed your name, hur durp. This has nothing to do with ponies and everything to do with making ppl mad just for laughs. Duh, I should have guessed.

I'm not supposed to be laughing at such a poor attempt to troll me specifically. With PONIES of all things. I love ponies. If anything they started off my day with a smile.

Thank you trollnado for bringing joy into my life.

Hello there.
I would like to talk about books. It does not matter if they relate to TF2 or not. I just feel that with all the great artists and writers, there certainly must have been a book read here or there.
I hope that this isn't too offtopic to even be in offtopic. I mean, I don't want to start a book club or anything. But Let's talk about the books of our childhood, the genres of books we like now, the writers we like. The absolutely amazing books we have read, and the absolutely shitty ones that we feel like complaining about. Books, books, books.

Recently got into this lovely series a friend had bullied me into reading. Probably already known, since it has been recently adapted into a rather true tv series.

Very well written series, if a bit long at times. Though this is a more realistic politically based series, where a lot of things go terribly wrong, and many do not have a happy ending.

Uh, I don't read a lot 'cuz I'm dumb. When I do read, it'xs pop-culture styled stuff. Read Caroline/Firewing in elementary school, the Harry Potter series in middle school, The Stranger, Monkey's Paw and The Great Gatsby (admittedly, 2/3 of those were mandatory class-readings, but I still enjoyed them) in high school and, most recently John Dies at the End.
I'm thinking about Picking up the Wheel of Time series (again) as I've so attempted several times in my life, but I got to find where litterally half of the first book went. As well as House of Leaves (I might have to order this online, though).

Also, I'd like to note that the books listed are what I enjoyed most, not strictly the only books I've read.

>>10149
I might pick this up sometime

Finally reading "Dancing With Eternity" (aka Sniper's Book). I'm only three chapters in and I'm laughing really hard at a lot of the things the main character, Mohandas (aka Mo), says.

And I love Steel (the filthy rich space pirate captain) because I swear her and Mo are based on Ellen McLain and Lowrie himself. A woman with a beautiful voice marrying an actor? Makes the book even better.

Have you ever been identified as the wrong character?

I haven't seen much Doctor Who, although I like what I've watched quite a bit. It was just weird seeing people asking Mr. Foster "Are you my mummy?" and having a little girl get all excited when she saw my Meet The Medic cosplay because she thought I was The Doctor.

...Although it was definitely adorable and a crossover I'd love to see.

Unit 731

Human experimentation including vivisection, burning alive, extreme frost bite, explosive decompression, plague, STD infection, air injection into veins, horse urine injected into kidneys, the list goes on and all of these were done without anesthetic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731

The commander of the unit was never charged with war crimes because he traded the research for no punishment then went on to work for the US.

David Shaw was a Australian technical diver who died in 2005 attempting to recover the body of Deon Dreyer, a South African diver who went missing in Boesmansgat in 1994 and was found in 2004, 890 feet down. Don Shirley, Shaw's diving buddy who was located higher up in a support position barely survived the same dive and suffered permanent brain damage as a result.

IIRC there have only been 8 people who've gone deeper than 800 feet. Half of them are dead.
