Amid all this ruckus about making femClasses, I'd like to pose the questions,
should there be female classes?
As in, would the game be improved by them? Or on the other hand, would the game be worsened by them? To what extent?
And either way, will Valve someday create them?
>> No. 791
Setting aside my peronal headcanon of Pyro secretly being female, I think that yes, there should be female classes, if only for the sake of adding aesthetic variety and cutting down on the gay jokes the fandom has to deal with.

I can't really see how the game could be worsened by them, especially since it wouldn't be a WoW-style "if I'm gonna be looking at an ass, it oughta be a hot chick ass" excuse, since the majority of the game outside of taunts is does in first-person view.

Will Valve create them? Tough call. There's been plenty of fanmade remodelings - Scout, Heavy, and Medic come to mind, done by ChemicalAlia - and a few of those even have voicepacks either completed or in progress... but as for anything official, well, only Valve can answer that.

Think of all the new domination/revenge/taunt sounds! New people with different backgrounds and personalities maybe?

I really don't think fem classes suit the game. Like, in the context of the story, it doesn't make sense. A bunch of top notch hired killers in the 60's wouldn't be all that welcoming to women. I guess maybe it wouldn't hurt if one or two of the original classes were female, but added an entire female set to the game? No way. I think femClasses belong as silly fan stuff.

A slight correction to your post; the femScout was made by AyesDyef.

Polite sage for not contributing anything.

I find myself agreeing with Ginger, to am extent. I don't think Valve will make femClasses simply because they don't need to. The fan-made mods are great, and I support them all fully. But since they would make no huge change to the game itself, Valve probably wouldn't make them.

Y'know, like all those gamechanging hats they made.

Obstacles to adding femclasses:
* Resources. You'd have to design all new character models, create new animations, record new voices, etc. etc. etc.
* Game balance. Would the lady classes have different hit-boxes than the men due to a difference in size, shape, and/or the way they move? What effect would that have on the current meta-game?
* Fan resistance. TF2 fans are already notoriously difficult to please. Adding female classes will create a whole new level of rage and controversy, never mind all the people who will be offended either because they think Valve is being too politically correct or not politically correct enough.
* Setting. Even with the Women's Liberation movement in full swing in the 1960s, why would RED or BLU add females to the team when the dudes they have are already at the top of their game? Neither the Administrator nor Saxton Hale seem to be the progressive type.

These are not impossible to overcome, but any one of them are a big enough issue alone for Valve to consider that it wouldn't be worth the effort.

all true. But look how much power Helen has. Giving a woman a gun doesn't seem a big comparatively.

They should be butch, girly women on wars makes no sence.

She seems (to me) that she would be a giant hypocrite about women's rights. Only SHE is allowed to be Top Head Bitch, all of the other ladies are doomed to be secretaries forever.

That's what I always assumed. Unless Pyro's a woman (or... female potatoes?), but she might not really know/care what's inside the suit so long as they play by her rules. But yeah, she doesn't seem progressive so much as she seems to have a vested self interest and the rest can all go hang.

I mean, Miss Pauling does get a gun, so I guess that counts for something, but I wouldn't be surprised if all the assistants/secretaries have to be ready, willing, and able to shoot a man if ordered...

That is, if there are any other assistants. All we've seen of the TF Industries workforce so far is Ms Pauling and a bunch of telly-messengers.
There was also an interesting post somewhere on the Steam Community Forums that noted how Miss Pauling was quite strong for her size, being able to lift the Eyelander and a bag of quicklime without visible strain.

As for the thing about "women didn't have power back then," maybe TF2's universe is different in that respect. After all, it's already quite strange (Lincoln died from rocketjumping, Kicasso, Shakespearicles, Australium).
Also, Mrs deGroot was a competent mercenary, so maybe women were more equal in TF2's version of the world? (Although, it could be because she was born into a mercenary bloodline.)

The bit about Miss Pauling's strength's something I hadn't even thought about. That's pretty interesting, especially if it's intentional. Well see someday, I suppose.
Anyway, I just decided to point out that considering the time period, Demoman and his mom actually seem to be pretty well off and respected, considering the fact that they are black. Sage'd because I'm not really contributing and raising any new points.

I was browsing through the TF2 wiki and I read something interesting: All of the classes are considered to be the same width and height with regards to collisions with objects, players, melee attacks, and projectiles (that explains so much about the Huntsman). So with tits classes, there wouldn't be a size advantage or disadvantage.

This. I always figured if there were fem classes it would be because, a) TF2's 60's was different with regards towards women, and b) Because if RED and BLU were hiring the best of the best, having either a penis or a vagina was irrelevant, it was the skills that counted.

I could totally see them hiring a lady Heavy because of her weapons expertise or a lady Sniper for her excellent sniping skills, and it wouldn't matter that they were women as long as they did their job and did it right.

i definitely agree. if they're really looking for skill, it wouldn't matter what gender they were, as long as they got the job done well.
