Moved from /gmod/ to /vg/. Not sure why you put it there instead of here, but /gmod/ is mainly for Gmod/Source Filmmaker works.

I love it, too! Hey, add me if you want to play. I'd love to have some chan buddies to play with. My Playstation Online ID is Fluffycatz

If you could somehow get the game models into the PC, you could conceivably use them in Source Film Maker, and make films using them. That would be fun to see.

I'm curious as to what your first game was, what genres you like, who introduced you into gaming, and if you're not much of a gamer, why not.

I first got into gaming because there were two girls in my third grade class who liked Zelda and Mario Kart and Pokemon. They invited me to their house to play Mario Kart, and I had fun, even if I was terrible at it (never got the hang of driving in games, even now). I asked for a Gameboy Color for the holidays that year, and even though my parents never really understood gaming, I got one that year, Lime Green, with a copy of Pokemon Yellow. I eventually added a GBA, a DS, a DSLite, a 3DS, a PS2, a PSP, and a Wii to our collection.

My two favorite franchises are probably WarioWare and Kirby. I love platformers like Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper, offbeat games like Katamari Damacy, and I even own a couple rhythm games like Elite Beat Agents and Rhythm Heaven (although I'm terrible at them). I find hack and slash games like Torchlight and Bastion relaxing (unless I'm at a rough part, where they become maddening).

Portal 2 probably has my favorite ending of any game ever, although I'm still stuck on Half-Life 2 and the original Portal. I love TF2, but I have a love/hate relationship with other pubbers. I miss playing L4D/2, because the people I used to play with seemingly dropped off the face of the earth. I get headaches sometimes when I play L4D, though, maybe I need to adjust the framerate...Killing Floor is a lot of fun, too, but it's a buggy mess sometimes and I wish it wasn't.

I will say the iPhone is surprisingly good for games. Even though I have a Mac and an iPod, I'd initially dismissed the iPhone as stupid, until a friend of mine let me play around on the games he'd downloaded for it, and even let me watch an entire movie on it (really impressive battery power on that thing, the movie was 3+ hours long).

Edward McMillen is rad. I've never played an MMO that wasn't F2P though, my parents never let me have the money for a monthly subscription to anything.

My dad's PC ports of Asteroids, Centipede, Battlezone, Missile Command and Tempest were the very first video games I've played. I was about 4-5 years old.

If you're talking able console games it was either Super Mario 64 or Mario Kart 64 (don't remember which one I played first) on my cousins' N64.

I thought we already had a thread like this. Oh well.

What games do you remember and love that nobody on the entire goddamn planet seems to care about?

Pic related. One of my favorite fighters of all time and except for two fansites and a very shitty sequel, there are no fucks given for it. What a shame because it's a lot of fun to play, has many hidden secrets and is even moddable - Which is quite an achievement for a 90s DOS fighting game. Also, you battle with giant robots. What is better than that, seriously?

Check it out if you can. Runs like a charm on DOS Box.

Okage's aesthetics are A LOT like Tim Burton's. The main difference is that Tim Burton's movies use a lot of black and white and shades of grey, while the game is very colourful. If you like Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, I wholeheartedly recommend Okage to you.

The "see a classic tale from an unexpected pov" premise is very Burton-ish too. Okage's premise is one of the most original I've ever seen in a game.

Narrative-wise, it's kind of a mixed bag. The first half of the game is amusing, but feels rather shallow. It's sort of a parody/subversion of the classic Evil Overlord story: entertaining and enjoyable, but nothing groudbreaking.

THEN, at about half point (which, admittdely, is what a lot of gamers would call too late), you get some genuinely unexpected and very interesting plot twists. From that point onwards, the story gets much more engaging, gradually developing until it actually becomes introspective and emotionally involving. The ending (not just the final scene, but the whole showdown with the Big Bad) is one of my favourite endings ever.

The humor is kind of hit-and-miss. some gags are very childish, others are hilarious. In general, it's a very lighthearted kind of humor: wacky situations and snarky lines. Overall, I loved it, but YMMV.

The gameplay is a mixed bag too. It's very simple (basically it's attack, defend or use magic), but also very hard (you have few HP, and the enemies hit hard). If you liked old SNES RPG you'll probably love the challenge, but if you are a fan of modern RPG you'll be annoyed by the total lack of customization).

One thing that I think Okage objectively failed at is that one very poignant story that explains the Big Bad's pov can only be heard if you complete an absurdly difficuly luck-based subquest. Such an important plot-related scene should have been part of the main story, not a throwaway missable scene that 99,8% of the players never saw.

I've got some games to add to the list: the ClayFighter games, The Neverhood, and Skullmonkeys. I don't know how many people remember those games, but they were awesome.

Also, there was supposed to be a new ClayFighter game. It was gonna be for the Wii, but no one ever heard about it, again. I think it got canceled :(
>> No. 1749
I accidentally said "slaymation" the other day, and someone told me it'd make a good Clayfighter sequel title.

Arguably, Willy Wonka and Alice and Wonderland are pretty colorful movies of his. I might like it, then. I admit I'm not an old-school gamer (I tried emulating Final Fantasy 1 once and I ragequit), but I can try it out and see if I like it.

It's not so much his appearance, just the fact that he's chasing you. Being chased, even in video games stresses me out.

I'm probably the odd one out here, but the thing that made me jump at every corner in my house was Portal. I played through the whole game in one night, all alone in the dark. I was so scared....

Do you collect gaming-related toys, comic books, shirts, posters, etc., and if so, what?

I have mostly Nintendo stuff, because it's relatively easy to find. A Yoshi t-shirt, a Pikachu t-shirt, and a bunch of plastic figures, mostly from fast food and cereal box campaigns from when I was a kid (and sometimes more recently). A lot of them are Pokemon, but there's some Mario (and even some Kirby-- Kirby needs more love, seriously). There's also a Pikachu plush from when I was a kid. He's tattered and worn, but I hope if I have kids, they'll love him like I did.

I have the Valve "Steam Powered Tales" book, the Chell tank top, Ellis' "Bull Shifters" t-shirt, and my Archimedes plush came yesterday. He's very cuddly and adorable. Outside of official stuff, I have a ton of L4D2, Portal 2, and TF2 pins, and a "Medics Do It From Behind" bag. Unfortunately, while HALOLZ updated their design, they don't have a new version of the bag, and the decal is ripping off (serves me right for living in a rainy state, I guess). I also have my Genuine Purity Fist redeeming card hanging up in my room. (Mm, Heavies...)

As for the want list, I'd really like the Alyx Vance hoodie, but I don't know if I'm willing to pay $44 for it, plus shipping. Maybe when the price goes down. I'm also considering buying my brother a plush for his birthday in a couple of months-- I'm torn between Chibiterasu and either Tanuki Mario or Bee Mario, because Okami, Super Mario 3D Land, and Super Mario Galaxy are among his favorite games. Any thoughts?

I mainly have Nintendo stuff as well (Mainly Pokemon and Mario but I also have a Kirby plush and pin as well as some fan-created buttons related to EarthBound and Mother 3), with the exception of my Sonic shirt I wear once in a while.

What I would really like to get one day is something related from Banjo-Kazooie or a Mr. Saturn plush but the are so expensive!

I'd love to play Mother, even if I had to emulate it.

I don't have the game. I've only been watching play-throughs on Youtube. Still, I love it so far. It's weird and way out there. The characters are also very funny, especially the boss zombies.

Lately, I've been looking for fanart of the characters, but almost all of it sucks, or is all about Juliet...which also sucks. That got me thinking, it would be cool to see what the chan might be able to contribute.

If you like Lollipop Chainsaw, too, talk about it, draw fanart for it, etc...especially if it involves the antics of the Dark Purveyors. Surely there must be some antics going on between them.

Yeah...I heard some bad things about Lollipop Chainsaw's game play, too. I don't know if it's that bad, but I kind of wanna wait until the price goes down, too. I still like the characters and the plot, though, and I wish there was more fanart of them...and not just of Juliet. I wanna see more good fanart of the Dark Purveyors, especially Zed and Mariska. They're my favorites.

Pre-owned copies of Lollipop Chainsaw now cost about $35 on Game Stop's website. The price is going down, and fast. I just might get it myself, soon.

Seems like the same problem with NMH. Great visual style, hilarious writing, awesome VA work, some interesting combat mechanics...and shitty level design. Get Suda51 to do the basic idea for the game, get someone else entirely to do the levels next time. Please? That being said, I did love the parts of NMH that were done well. (I love Travis. He has a badass jacket, he's voiced by The Goddamn Medic, and has a cat. End of story.)

Also I cannot take Tara Strong seriously as Juliet or Harley Quinn, because I cannot unthink her as Bubbles or Twilight Sparkle.

As pretty as Rage is and as wacky as the enemies are as they climb about the place like baboons at a rave and as fun as the driving is

It is hard to give a damn about a story that one theorises was written by a seven year old boy on the back of a school detention letter with an orange crayon

I worry sometimes that Killing Floor will end up the same way.

A lot of people are really shitty to play with, it's never updated unless there's an event (and then the servers are swamped until the end of the event, when people leave and stop playing until the next one), and reoccurring problems like laggy, unstable servers and the massive jump in difficulty between Beginner and Normal are never fixed.

Which is a shame, because the game is incredibly fun.
>> No. 1729
Eh, Killing Floor has been chugging along just fome for a few years now.

I worry more for Red Orchestra 2. The developers have been trying trying to please vocal "RO vets" who are pissed off because it isn't exactly the same as the first game and stop having fun. And the time spent making "Classic" mode would have been better spent making drastically needed bugfixes and optimizations along with new content. As somebody on OperatorChan put it:
>it makes the PR community seem like a bunch of civil and open-minded individuals.

For example, idiots demanding the removal of the arcade/realism modes.

Just got this game for Christmas and I can't believe how much this helped. The game was laggy and irritating before, I didn't know if I'd be able to stand it. But thanks for posting this, it was an enormous help!
A question, though, does anyone know how I can smooth out the mouse movement? I set the sensitivity as high as it could go and it's not enough. Not only that but they're very jagged mouse movements.

The result of a couple days of me learning how to make a summon and replace textures on armor. Kinda fucked up the latter.
Also stole the helmet from open faced helmets, I know I know.

The whole ending sequence, plus that bit in Arrival from before, already suggested "Shepard got indoctrinated by Reapers" to me before I even heard about the theory proper, so I'd be pretty happy with a reveal like that, even if there are some problems with it thematically.
>> No. 1702
While I do feel that that theory would make the ending just a little more bearable, it would make me hate bioware all the more.
The would pretty much be saying "You did everything right and made the entire universe band together? too bad, you still loose, buy more dlc."

I really want this to get better, I want to be able to make it be my Starwars in terms of fanboyism and such, but I'm actually getting depressed trying to not give up on bioware.

Well well, what do we have here. Looks like EA is now trying to use the gay romances in ME3 (and DA2) to astroturf some support for themselves after the whole Worst Company debacle. And Origin is part of that process.
