3272 No. 3272
This is my first time posting any of my art on this site; admittedly, I'm just a tad apprehensive.

Anyways, here's some Engie 'n Scoot. Please, if you have any, give me ideas on what pairing/scenario to draw next.

I dig the pose,Scout looks good and the leg positioning is great on him.
Anything with your Scoot there would be good.
Small crit:Engie seems a tad small.
>> No. 3288
Yea, I totally dig this, but if anything I'd say that Engie's arms need to be beefed up :)

This is possibly a weird thing to zero in on, but I love that Scoot has a hole in his sock. :)

Whoa, I didn't even notice they were purple till you pointed that out.

Anyways, I love your clean lines, OP! They're so soft and really emphasize the whole making love theme.

Thanks for the crit, Gaku. Yeah, now that I look at it, I could of made Engie a tad stockier and more muscular.

Durhur, I was hoping someone would notice the little hole in Scout's sock.

And, er, sorry about the purpleness, but thank you, emzy, for the compliment.

Sadly, sage for no picture, but I'll have some Scout x Pyro soon.

Well, this was an unexpected thing to come home to.

Heck, I'm not trying to hide anything; I used a ref, since I was more or less studying poses at the time. It was an image posted on 420's /ga/, in a Favorite Fap thread. I guess I gave proper credit on SD and not on here, which I profusely apologize and burn with embarrassment for. If I had the picture saved, I'd include it, but alas I do not.

Once again, I apologize. I now understand the consequences of not double-checking myself when credit is required.

This matches up a bit too closely for being a reference. Shit ain't cool, yo. You should have known better.

LOL, typos.
>> No. 4078

To be honest, it looks more like you traced over it and moved the image around underneath to make it seem like you just copied it by ear (though that's still ripping off, referencing and copying are two different things). It's a technique often used by art thieves that try to stay under the radar.

Regardless, yeah... Too similar to pass off as a ref'd pic.

For anyone who's trying to 'study poses and anatomy':
DO NOT TRACE STYLIZED FANART. DO NOT DO THAT. Not only is it high risk (the artist might not know what they're doing), but you learn a hell lot less than if you just went on google/DA and looked at/studied naked bodies. And I know, that's boring, but you gotta get the basics down before you jump into style. And then maybe once you've got the general gist of it down, look at some stylized art to figure out how they do it, but don't just trace over the thing. I mean, look at all those delicious muscles in the original picture! Where are they? If you were truly studying poses and anatomy you should definitely include those.

AND JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS: REFERENCING IS PERFECTLY OKAY. IN FACT, ALL GOOD ARTISTS REFERENCE IN ORDER TO GET BETTER. YOU DON'T JUST IMAGINE SHIT OUT OF YOUR ASS, YOU GOTTA OBSERVE THE SHIT OUT OF THAT SHIT IN ORDER TO DRAW THE SHIT WELL, OKAY. AND REFERENCING IS NOT COPYING. REFERENCING IS OBSERVING; COPYING IS TRACING. THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE.

Okay, I'm done.
>> No. 4080
Oh, that's why it looks so familiar. I used to do the same thing when I was twelve.

Thank you Emzy for saving the day once again.
>> No. 4082

I never said referencing is bad. The problem is that people confuse it with copying the image. A good example is Disneyfan whom copies faces from disney movies for her mary sue comic. She insists that she's referencing it, but she never leaves her comfort zone of copied expressions.

Copying the exact image down to the letter is just making a copy. If perhaps you are drawing a horse from real life to reference it, you won't toss out your drawing because it just moved. You're STUDYING it.

But I do agree, learning anatomy from a stylized piece of fan art is a bad idea.
>> No. 4084

OH, I'm sorry! I accidently quoted the wrong post.

And I agree with you! Part of being an artist is always pushing ourselves. Once an artist gets comfortable, they stop really improving. NO PAIN NO GAIN, etc etc

I'm sure the horse didn't appreciate it.

How many people need to get humiliated and banned before people realize how fucking stupid it is to not only trace in the first place, but to then POST IT ON AN ART BOARD?

Fucking hell.
>> No. 4140
>>4136
I guess they figure it's not stealing unless they're posting the SAME PICTURE and claiming they drew it, forgetting that the entire pose and composition was fabricated by the artist and so is--to a degree, thus why we lay the two over each other to be sure--theirs.
