Medic's Past - Because I can't think of a better title (15)

1 .

After BLU had won this round, the REDs made their way back to the base, slightly downtrodden. As they all separated into their separate things to do, Scout saw Medic walk to the clinic.

"Strange, usually he checks up on all of us before he gets back to work. I wonder what he's doing..." Scout decided to follow him to the back area.

When they got there, Medic had taken a piece of paper out of his pocket, hidden safely away inside of coat, so that nothing in battle could ever reach it.

Scout was watching, from someplace near the open door. He had tried to look closely at what Medic was holding-It was a photo. He couldn't quite make out what it was; it looked torn and frayed, slightly.

"Scout, I know you're there. Do you need any help?" Medic was quick to set the picture down and cover it with a nearby medical textbook that he often used for reference.

"No... I was just wondering what you were looking at. Was it a photo?" At this point, Scout had noticed a slightly depressed look on Medic's face, and figured that he said too much. "Look, uh, sorry if I upset ya. It's been a long day, and I guess I;d better-" He was interrupted by Medic.

"No, it's alright. Keeping secrets form teammates always leads to something less than optimal. It is indeed a photograph... of my family." He took it out from it's hiding place under the book and showed Scout in the full light.

It was Medic, sitting at a dinner table with a woman in the background giving a cookie to a little boy.

"You have a family? Where are they now?" Scout couldn't help but be curious.

"...They are dead. They dies a long time ago, before the war, back home."

He had never seen Medic look so sad.

"Do you mind if I, uh, ask where that is?"

After a long silence, Medic spoke up.

"I am from West Philedalphia, born and raised. I spent most of my days on a playground, near my school. I often played basketball with my friends. One day, a couple of men who were clearly up to no good started spreading NAZI propaganda in my neighborhood. Once I voiced my opinion and my mother became scared for my safety, she sent me to Auntie and Uncle in Stuttgart..."
