My first attempt at drawing Spy. I think I got the shoulders to narrow, and the non-existent neck could have been better.
Anyways, opinions, critique? Throw it at me, as I want to try markers/pens soon.
Thanks.

From someone who doesn't know much about art - it's admirable you didn't shy away from drawing the hands. How about some feet? Then again, you could just pull a Liefeld and always have rocks conveniently placed to hide feet. He made millions of dollars, so it's doable.

Thanks, I was never good at hands, but I do try. And I was going to do feet, but I ran out of room on the paper. I can add them in later on.
I see you said I "didn't know much about art". Could you give me any other advice?
Thanks again.

This may contrast with the process of your drawing style but might I suggest trying a more loose effect with the spy's body?

I always imagine his torso as a rectangle and his arms come out from each corner. That's overly simplified for what I'm saying but you get the idea right?

Here's an example.

Also, the hands should reach about mid thigh. Make sure to shift his weight so it looks like he's in a position where he won't lose his balance.

If you check out /gmod/ or look at Spy in general he is almost literally a cigarette box with limbs.

By "looser", do you mean less narrow and more wide? The lines more "open" and less "tight"?
And thanks, I'll try to keep him more balanced.
>>9330
Yeah, my friend said the same thing, basically.

By looser, I meant more rubbery. You shouldn't necessarily feel that you need to do that but I feel it might help since your drawing is pretty stiff.

I think I get what you're saying now. I'll try some more poses, and add more characters down the road, maybe.
Here's another one I drew trying to follow the advice. The left foot is slightly cut off, that's why it looks so flat like that.
Did I do it right?

The body is much better, more relaxed to fit his style. The head on the last one was a bit better, this one has that typical animu jaw that can cut glass. For me, making proper jaws was hard as I kept drawing animu looking crap way back when so it was a tough habit to kick.

Agreein' with anon. Much better on the body, but now you've got Animjaw to deal with.

I'd way you are on the right trek, but only issue is animu eyes and jaw, mkay.

Yea, I do have an animu style, and I do try to cut back on it. I'll remember that next time I draw people.
Thanks, everyone. Next up for me, Engie.

My next fanart, Engineer. This guy was hard to draw.
Critique!

You're doing MUCH better on the body but again he's still a tad stiff. The legs are awesome and balance him out just fine, but overall he seems to be putting up some sort of stance for no real reason. I imagine him getting ready to build something but his expression and pose make it feel like he's thinking "so what?".

But, you're definitely getting better.

I'm not good with poses. So, taking your advice, I tried to think of another pose, something more interesting to put him in. I couldn't think of anything except this comic.
He was slightly easier to draw this time.

See, that's perfect. His pose is perfect for what attitude he's conveying.

Also wondering just how that cat is staying alive down there. :'B

Darkened, more defined. I actually really like this one, please critique!!

My biggest crit on this is the faces. Engie is missing his JAW OF ENGINEERING, and Spy is looking a little too animu-ish. I'm also sort of confused as to what's going on with Engie's left arm.

Oh crap, I did forget his epic jaw. And Spy's face will be fixed soon enough, once I get over my laziness. And as for Engie's arm... I never drew it. Again, laziness.

Just to clarify, Medic is supposed to be pulling on his glove, and Spy is pointing at him. I just think it looks confusing.

d'aawwwwww

Here's something else I drew in the car. It turned out okay, IMO. The hand at his side is really big, though. And maybe his face is to stout.
>> No. 10707

His hands look a bit awkward and his chin could be more defined but you're definitely getting much better. He has a nice pose right there, it's calm but not boring. Keep it up!

Awesome, I'm so glad to hear that :D

Here's something I'm working on. I don't usually work in digital coloring, but I wanted to try this out.
I'm completely lost for a background. I can't do b/g's to save my life.
