I didn't see a thread for OC help anywhere, so I hope if it's OK if I make one.

In Meet the Sniper, the Sniper mentions "blokes bludgeoning their wives to death with golf trophies": I thought that he would get along well with this type of character. I'm thinking that she married a guy with anger issues and/or drinking problems and he almost bludgeoned her to death or she died but was revived. Either way, she might have amnesia and maybe be sexist. What would she do about the wedding ring, though? Would she keep it on to keep men from flirting with her if they're interested? Or would she remove it to try to forget her husband (assuming she didn't forget/get amnesia)? I don't think she would divorce him, she would probably just run away from him.

When an event like abuse happens, there're usually psychological consequences, right? What would hers be?

I'm thinking that she'll end up being a Spy and she'll either be an ass or extremely shy around men.

(Not sure if the file I attached is really related; it's from Meet the Sniper and I had to attach something.)

Questions to consider:
- Why would she get amnesia?
- Why would she suddenly become sexist? (I'm assuming you mean sexist towards men. If you mean towards women, then why?)
- Why wouldn't she get a divorce?
- Why would she end up with Spy?
- Why would she be shy towards men, not angry and/or distrusting?

- Why would she get amnesia?
I'm thinking because of how hard her head was hit.

- Why would she suddenly become sexist? (I'm assuming you mean sexist towards men. If you mean towards women, then why?)
Because of what her husband did to her, she thinks that they're all the same.

- Why wouldn't she get a divorce?
She might run away and be too afraid to confront him.

- Why would she end up with Spy?
I put that she'd be a Spy, not be with him.

- Why would she be shy towards men, not angry and/or distrusting?
She's very afraid of them. But when in a violent situation, she could be angry (kind of like Lucy/Nyu from Elfen Lied).

I don't like the idea, to be honest. It reads too much like a soap-oprah.

The whole thing with the wife getting beat with the golf trophy becoming a spy is a great idea, but you sound like you don't have any experience with domestic violence irl, and making an OC like that with so little knowledge would probably just offend a lot of people. It'd be like making a fanfic or a fancomic in which your OC gets raped and then falls in love with the man who violated her. With subjects SO serious, you just can't afford to put some extra time and effort into making it as realistic and tasteful as possible.

If I were you, I'd start doing a lot of research on topics like domestic abuse survivors, blunt trauma to the head, and amnesia (which is an idea that should be scrapped completely, imo) instead of just guessing.

Also, it has to be asked: how can she remember enough to be afraid of men if she has amnesia, and probably can't even remember anything ABOUT her husband?

More than that, if she's AFRAID of men, sexist towards them, and "shy", as you put it, then WHY is she on the team in the first place? What does she has to bring to the table that wouldn't just be a huge hindrance to everyone?

Thank you for your input. I'm still not entirely certain about some parts of her design; everything is pretty much "maybe this will work, maybe it won't."

You're right; I don't know much about some of these topics. However, I am willing to learn/research.

"How can she remember enough to be afraid of men if she has amnesia, and probably can't even remember anything ABOUT her husband?" I was thinking that she blocked the memories out since they were too much to handle, but still was the fear. For instance, something bad happened to me in spring, but I can't remember what it was. However, I become depressed during that period.

I haven't decided why she'll be on the team yet. However, she might switch to being aggressive in dangerous situations.

>"...she might switch to being aggressive in dangerous situations."

Please don't. That's one trope that's just been made unsalvageable by... Well, I'd actually say a lot of things, but animu is particularly bad for it.

Just ask yourself: If she's only aggressive when "cornered", why would the companies hire her at all? They want MERCENARIES - people who will go for the kill at any means to get the job done. Hiring a girl like her, where she's only aggressive some of the time, just wouldn't be smart - it could possibly end up costing them an entire day's worth of hard work (for example, Scout has the intel, he doesn't see her, she can kill him and return the intel, but doesn't).

Relying on her would be like picking from two cups, one filled with water, and the other filled with poison. A smart person would just quench their thirst elsewhere instead of risking it. So would RED or BLU. They'd just hire some other non-psycho merc that they could RELY on to get the job done - no unnecessary baggage included.

Sorry, but that's just one thing I'm probably going to fight you on FOREVER if you decide to keep it. It just doesn't fit in the game, and if you're going to make a female OC, you're going to be under even CLOSER scrutiny to make sure you know what you're doing. Female OCs when it comes to TF2 is like a fandom version of Russian Roulette.

I dislike amnesiac characters as a general rule, I find that it can simply be an easy way to give someone a horrible, pitiable back-story, but allow the character to not actually have to face or grow from those issues. It's kind of like giving an extremely physically attractive character a scar that she hides under her clothes, and then talking about how she's "not a Mary Sue because her beauty is marred" despite the fact that no other character has and ever will see it.

As for her being in a wartime battle, the above poster has a point. Someone who will only SOMETIMES fight wouldn't be any military's first choice.

Should she be psychotic all the time, then?

>>1399
I didn't mean for her to be "pitiable"; I wasn't sure how else she would get the head trauma.

Okay, man. I didn't want to say this, but... You're probably just going to have to start from scratch with this one. From the domestic abuse, to the head trauma, to the amnesia, to her relations with RED and BLU and why she even decided to become a merc in the first place... It just sounds like you're way over your head with this.

The more we talk, the more it seems like this character is making a nosedive into full-fledged Mary Sue-dom. Once you start referring to anime as one of your sources of inspiration, you know you've got a problem.

I'm really sorry and I wish I didn't have to say this, but it really is for the best. Maybe try to start over with a simpler topic, find out how to make realistic characters and such, then tackle this later.

OK, thanks.
