Something I drew Ashly Burch for her birthday, the second time I've drawn the characters she voiced as a gift for her.

I neglected to add Jinx. I didn't know she played her as well, since I've never really looked into LoL.

Your ladies got a serious case of same face syndrome, and it's a bit off-putting tbh.

How so? I strive to do the exact opposite.

I wouldn't say it's sameface syndrome but I definitely see a lot of similarities in your pictures.

I've made a shitty explanation in paint, please excuse how bad t is, but it's currently the only program I've got.

On the left are the pictures in which it's most noticeable.

Right top are the similarities that probably makes anon think sameface.
1) The general head-shapes are the same. You only widen the chin a bit with some characters, but that doesn't change the overall head-shape.
Looking at your fem-heavy design, she looks as if she's supposed to have some chub. But chub doesn't go on the chin, it goes on the cheeks or the area right beneath it, depending on your facetype.
2) Your eyebrow all looks like a thin line, but it's hard to tell by the way you draw em. more on that in my next post.
3) Your noses are all the same. The itsy bitsy.

Bottom right I made a few changes to your fem-hoovy. First picture I went for a more oval facetype and a more heavy styled nose.
Second picture is a "chub face" with more chin and a potato nose.
All I did was change the face type and the nose, and bam! an entirely different face, without straying too much from your style.

Ok, a few complaints about your style in general.
Once again I apologize for shitty MSPaint.

I've once again used your lovely fem-hoovy.

The one on the right is a breakdown of your style as it is now, the one on the left is my corrections.

First, you need to move down your ears. The top of the ear should be up no further than the top of the eye. Remember, ears sits at an angle.

Secondly, your eyebrows seems to be trying to fly off the face. Eyebrows sits very close to the eye itself. Most people only have about a fingernail or so between the eye itself the the brow.
Pulling down your brow will making it easier to pull of expressions and make your characters look more natural.

Thirdly, the base of your noses are almost as big as the eye of the character. This would work in a more cartoony style, but you don't seem to be going for that.
A thinner nose base would be more in touch with what you're going for.

And last, your mouth and lips need to go down just a tiny bit. Look in the mirror and you'll notice a small cleft above your lips, there needs to be room for that on your faces.

All in all, you seem to be well on your way. All of this stuff is generally newbies mistakes, and as you keep drawing you'll find most of it gets better naturally.

Hot diggity, I see great improvement in the variation already.

Again, repeating the same old shit but it's worthy of repeating because it actually works:
Life drawing. Keep doing it until your eyes bleed and your brain seeps out your ears. You're only ever going to learn how to vary faces if you draw different kinds of facial structures and layouts. And the only real way to learn would be to draw lots of different people, from life or from photos.

This discussion reminds me of something from my first formal art class. There were two portrait projects to we had at the beginning - a self-portrait, and one of someone we know but drawn from memory. Our teacher pointed out something that surprised everyone: all the 'from memory' faces looked like weird versions of our own self-portraits. Turns out that most people spend a lot of time scrutinising their own face in the mirror, so it's what gets imprinted in your brain as default facial features. Then, when you go to draw from memory, the most familiar facial structure is what comes to mind first.

Now, I'm not saying these ladies all look the same or that they look like you. Just keep in mind it could be a possibility that you lean more towards certain facial traits that you are familiar with or find pleasing. Could be your own features, or those of friends or family, or characters/art you look at a lot.

Either way, stepping out of your comfort zone repeatedly is what will get you drawing varied, convincing faces like a pro! Best of luck, can't wait to see the next one

I tried to do a little bit of it here. I hope I'm breaking out of the sameface thing. TBH, nearly every single thing I draw is reffed heavily, and I've taken Life Drawing twice. And I still don't feel like it shows in my artwork. It's frustrating.

Ref sheet for Aleksandra the Heavy Weapons Gal, but in her proper work uniform. She's a girly girl off the battlefield, but prefers more practical, masculine clothing at work.

Crackshipping the most competent characters I know. Good thing they're both way too busy to have kids, because they'd probably birth some kind of genius superbaby.

Rough sketch of my OC with another RP'er, a Femsniper with red panda ears. I know I can push the pose and anatomy a bit more in the final.
