I read George Orwell's 1984 back in 2006, two years before I played Team Fortress 2 for the first time.

I made a mental picture in my head of O'Brien, the treacherous, sadistic, and oddly seductive thoughtcrimes investigator and Ministry of Love Torturer/Reprogrammer as I read the book. I thought of a man, in his middle age, cruelly handsome as to increase the irony, dark-haired, expressive-faced, with very mobile brows, and a strong, almost harsh jawline. And glasses.

It's taken me this long to put two and two together to make five.
