It's a Japanese pronunciation of "wife."

Blame /a/.

Since the OP is busy being set on fire by dragons, I will fill you in! Your translation was close, and I'll admit that I had to hassle the OP as my own Japanese phonetic skills are rusty as all hell.

Waifu Medic is saying, "Kyaan, tasukete!" (Eeek, help!) The smaller letters pointing towards him simply say, "waifu medikku" The Heavy is saying, "Shyobu!" a challenging exclamation that doesn't quite translate to anything in english. The word on the Soldier's banner is "Aka"- "red".

>koyan

(granted, the hiragana is written rather poorly

is this what tf2chan has become
>> No. 2692
I think Waifu Medic is saying "Iya~n", which is simply a girlish (and whiny?) Japanese exclamation. But that will mean the first hiragana is written wrongly.

Geez guys, okay, gonna try and put the kana discussion to bed here.

The "i" (い) is correct, just a little sloppy (my handwriting is just as bad and still legible so no criticism intended). If it were "ko" (こ) the upper line would be written first and the hook on the lower line would be to the left instead of the right. Stroke order and all that. You will pretty much never see a "ko" slanted that far anyway.

One thing I do notice is that the "i" (イ) in "waifu" is small, when it should be normal-sized as it is its own syllable (diphthongs are separated out in kana). A small vowel kana usually indicates that it is directly modifying the preceding syllable, like in "di" right below--the "i" replaces the "e" sound. So it kind of looks like..."weef".

I feel like I should make up for the language babble with some art crit, but then again this comment is too friggin long already so I'll opt to shut up instead.

*cough* Yeah... my handwriting is terrible in English, so clumsiness in other languages comes naturally to me. I feel like drawing this triggered some kind of relapse to my teenage years of animu faggotry. Oh well.

For the most part it's written correctly, although I think some of the hiragana are written at too slanted of an angle. The only kana I would really change would be the "tsu" one in Medikku. There's only supposed to be two dashes on the left, and it's supposed to be more vertically-shaped in contrast to the broader but similar looking "shi". The way I wrote "ya" may not be entirely correct either but that was the way I learned it in middle school, which is admittedly a hell of a long time ago.

ITT; people who don't know their kana telling other people how to write

Man, once apon a time the mere presence of kana have been the scourge of tf2chan, the poor writing and poor advice just makes it worse
