I'm using a custom 'cinematic' lightwarp. I wasn't sure of how it looked at first, but eventually got to like it- try it some time! A custom lightwarp can change a lot about how your poses look.

Also, a tip: Use lamps (NOT LIGHTS!). Lamps are great for lighting up and bringing attention to otherwise dark and/or boring areas. Even if your model is in normal light, see if you can enhance it with a lamp anyway- in-map static lighting only affects if a model is 'lit' or 'unlit.' A lamp, as a dynamic lightsource, brings out those neat little shadows, wrinkles, etc. Hope you guys don't mind if I post a diagram, it's kind of hard to explain. Polite sage for no contribution to thread topic.

The masked one is a quick edit I did back before I had gmod.

(posted also in other thread) i dlled the skin and followed the mask fix instructions, and whenever i get ingame (connect to a game) the red pyro's body just becomes a purple & black checkerboard.

The body shouldn't be missing a texture, it sounds as though you replaced the femme pyro red skin rather then the pyro red skin. The femme pyro grabs its mask and glove textures from the male pyro. So if the male pyro has a custom skin on, it will show on her mask/gloves.

yeah, i fixed this last night, i replaced ALL the red pyro stuff, and that's what got me my error
