I thought we already had a thread like this. Oh well.

What games do you remember and love that nobody on the entire goddamn planet seems to care about?

Pic related. One of my favorite fighters of all time and except for two fansites and a very shitty sequel, there are no fucks given for it. What a shame because it's a lot of fun to play, has many hidden secrets and is even moddable - Which is quite an achievement for a 90s DOS fighting game. Also, you battle with giant robots. What is better than that, seriously?

Check it out if you can. Runs like a charm on DOS Box.

Mortimer and the Riddles of the Medallion. I remember playing that game when I was little. I don't know if anyone's heard of it, but it's this game where you fly around in a giant snail and free animals and shoot slime at bad guys. I can't seem to find any pictures, videos or art about the game.

If it's that game where you have to solve simple math problems to get more ammo, then I've played it.

Awesome games that got way too little attention? I know plenty of those (Elite Beat Agents, Beyond Good & Evil, XIII, Henry Hatsworth, and The Lost Vikings to name just a few), but my favorite example is Battle Realms. It's a very innovative yet surprisingly easy to learn RTS. Unfortunately, it was released at about the same time as Empire Earth, so it didn't get much attention.

Oh my god, someone else played that game!

It was my favourite when I was a ki! I even memorized all the gate songs, because I was a sad nerd from an early age.
I was so sad when it started locking up in the last level, though.

WarioWare. The entire series.

I own all but the second one with the FUCKING GYROSCOPE I COULD NEVER FIND ARGHARGH

It does have a fanbase, but a very, very small one for what I consider a mainstream Nintendo game. Sly Cooper and Kirby also need bigger fanbases. I think they exist, they just live under rocks, or something.

Nope, you have to solve riddles having to do with animals and their life cycles and stuff. You have to solve them at these guardian gates that give you pieces of the medallion and let you through to the next environment if you get them right. If you don't get them right, you have to fly through that entire environment all over again.

Here's a gameplay video I found.

Battle Realms. One of the first PC Games me and my Brother played and which seems nobody to
know.

It was a simple real-time strategy computer game. You had to choose between a so called clan and then to produce peasants to get resources/ make buildings in which you send them later to train them into military units.

You could choose in the multiplayermode free between all 4 clans. The lotus, wolf, snake and dragon. The dragon and snake clan are alike except that the dragonclan is the good one and the snake clan the bad one which means, it was in some ways nastier. Than you had the lotus which was a mix between black magic and technologie and the wolfclan which was mostly nature and magic.

The game had it all for us. Good music. Decent story. But the highlight for me was the difference but still identity to the clans. Either you had units which use black magic and don´t fear cannibalism to get new powers, or you had berserker which you later let become werewolves in the middle of a fight.

It had heart and i really wish there would come a Battle Realms 2 out.

Jet Force Gemini. This was without a doubt THE best gaming experience of my childhood.

It's a 3rd-person shooter set in a fictional galaxy where giant bugs terrorize little cuddly bear-like creatures. And you have to kill the bugs. You can kill the bears, too, but eventually you will have to backtrack (a fucking lot) to rescue them all before taking on the head bug baddy. Great level design and amazing music made the massive amount of backtracking that much more bearable (lol). It was truly ahead of it's time.

Another forgotten gem is Sphinx and The Cursed Mummy. It was a neat little puzzle game. The cliffhanger ending screamed "sequel", but the game didn't really sell as many copies as THQ wanted, so it never happened. Wasn't even discussed. A shame, too, it was a damn good title.

I got it from my cousin when we were visiting family in Utah for Christmas. I liked it because of the music and it was different from the other platforms I had played like Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie. However, the easy was too short, with only 6 levels and could be completed in one sitting. The same goes with it's sequel.

Legend of goddamn Legaia, also known as The Legaia. As a wee miss, I ditched Final Fantasy VII about an hour in and popped this in instead. I fell in love.

It's a traditional JRPG with elements of a fighting game and capturable monsters that you could summon. It's short (you can beat it in 24 hours) but really fun and sort of original.

So I tried this game for the first time yesterday. The aiming is really hard, but it is indeed fun. Then again I also tried Ocarina of Time for the first time yesterday, so I've got a lot of catching up to do.

I have been told I would like it because I am a fan of Tim Burton's aesthetic, and apparently it is "Tim Burton: The Game".

Although you can say the same for Psychonauts (and, of course, the Nightmare Before Christmas games).
>> No. 1745
>>1744
Okage's aesthetics are A LOT like Tim Burton's. The main difference is that Tim Burton's movies use a lot of black and white and shades of grey, while the game is very colourful. If you like Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, I wholeheartedly recommend Okage to you.

The "see a classic tale from an unexpected pov" premise is very Burton-ish too. Okage's premise is one of the most original I've ever seen in a game.

Narrative-wise, it's kind of a mixed bag. The first half of the game is amusing, but feels rather shallow. It's sort of a parody/subversion of the classic Evil Overlord story: entertaining and enjoyable, but nothing groudbreaking.

THEN, at about half point (which, admittdely, is what a lot of gamers would call too late), you get some genuinely unexpected and very interesting plot twists. From that point onwards, the story gets much more engaging, gradually developing until it actually becomes introspective and emotionally involving. The ending (not just the final scene, but the whole showdown with the Big Bad) is one of my favourite endings ever.

The humor is kind of hit-and-miss. some gags are very childish, others are hilarious. In general, it's a very lighthearted kind of humor: wacky situations and snarky lines. Overall, I loved it, but YMMV.

The gameplay is a mixed bag too. It's very simple (basically it's attack, defend or use magic), but also very hard (you have few HP, and the enemies hit hard). If you liked old SNES RPG you'll probably love the challenge, but if you are a fan of modern RPG you'll be annoyed by the total lack of customization).

One thing that I think Okage objectively failed at is that one very poignant story that explains the Big Bad's pov can only be heard if you complete an absurdly difficuly luck-based subquest. Such an important plot-related scene should have been part of the main story, not a throwaway missable scene that 99,8% of the players never saw.

Also, the loading times are excruciatingly long.

Still: awesome aesthetics, unique premise, plenty of humor and memorable lines, an initially shallow plot that eventually develops into a moving story with a great ending, and challenging boss battles. This is why, despite it's glaring flaws, Okage is one of my favourite games ever.

I've got some games to add to the list: the ClayFighter games, The Neverhood, and Skullmonkeys. I don't know how many people remember those games, but they were awesome.

Arguably, Willy Wonka and Alice and Wonderland are pretty colorful movies of his. I might like it, then. I admit I'm not an old-school gamer (I tried emulating Final Fantasy 1 once and I ragequit), but I can try it out and see if I like it.
