Picking up and playing Fatal Frame at my friend's house. Got to this cutscene where a guy is running through a hall with arms growing out and trying to catch him.
Immediately stopped playing and was unable to sleep without a flashlight for a week.

Invisible water monsters in Amnesia.

I already have a fear of water, ESPECIALLY water in rooms where there should NOT BE WATER. And then, getting through both gates, and running through the next part, practically shrieking the whole bloody time.

No. No no no no no. I am so not playing this game again. Just to avoid that entire area.

On a related note, does anyone know if "Record my live streams" has to be selected in Livestream for it to record? It asked me if I wanted to save it after, and I named it and saved it, but I didn't have it to record selected beforehand.
I'm kind of wanting to listen to myself freak out to see exactly how bad that was.

This exact bit from STALKER: SoC freaked me out so fucking bad. Although anytime I had to go underground in that game made me really jumpy.

water levels = all of my fear
i hated watching/hearing the characters drown, it was torture. i've always had a fear of drowning/inundation and this level in this game pretty much made it worse.

Playing OoT as a kid, probably around 5 or 6 years old.

Never played through it at the time and it was just a rental, but the cart I got had the whole game done so I was just exploring.

Stumble across the well. The fucking WELL.

I'm exploring, looking around, not too scary. Spooky walls and all that, the Skultulas weren't a problem for me.

But...since I never played through the game, I had no idea about the Lens of Truth. I didn't even bother looking over my inventory other than getting out the bow and hookshot.

So I'm walking along, avoiding the green bubble, and i fall into a fucking invisible hole asdf

So I'm like "oh god damn you", walking along trying to get out, and suddenly enemy music starts playing

"oh no more bats or skulls", look around see nothing, suddenly notice a brown blob on the floor, think it's just the terrain but then it stands up

"um what is that can i leave oh god the camera angle how do i change the camera angle i cant see the door"

and then it SCREAMED

and i screamed like a little girl and had to get mom to turn off the n64 ;_;

second worst was when i was even younger and had this scooby-doo haunted mansion pc game, which honestly wasn't that scary, just cartoony ghosts

but halfway through the game it was completely pitch black and your mouse was a flashlight, and i was fucking TERRIFIED because i didn't want to move the light and see what was in the room with me but the longer i waited the more i thought the ghosts were coming to get me and the more scared i got but i didnt want to look and my imagination was hyperactivate and oh god help ;_;

no image because no image can sum up my feelings

That fucking moon! I saw it fall once. Exactly once. And started playing the Song of Time at sundown on the last day so I wouldn't have to see it again. I only finished the game because my older bro assured me that if I had all four giants the moon would not fall.

Also with the major drowning theme this thread seems to have, the music from the first Sonic games when he's about to drown scared the pants off me as a child.

I was deployed overseas. Decided to do a Silent Hill marathon on one of my down times. Just me, the game, and a hell of a lot of energy drinks. The drinks caught up to me around midnight and I had to walk way out to the latrines. It's dark, quiet, and a bit of fog has kicked up. I only see the faint outline of a few people walking every once in a while. About halfway there I realize I am carrying the exact same thing I am in the game. Right down to the little bag of beef jerky tucked into my body armor. That's about the time the mortar alarms went off. Packed those games up and shipped them home the next day.

I cannot stand being chased by something.
So "Amnesia" made me scream like a little girl.

But HL2 Episode 2 takes the award; that bit when you're dodging the ant guardian because you aren't allowed to kill it. It nearly got me about 5 times and I refuse to replay the game just because of that section.

FUCKING REDEADS.
FUCKING STALCHILDREN.
FUCKING SHADOW TEMPLE.
FUCKING LoZ.
That was definatly the scariestgame for me ever. Stuff like Dead Space and F.E.A.R. are bloody KITTENS compared to the horror I felt in that god damn game.
Two other critters that freaked the living shit outta me in that game- the shadow hands and that fella that would start chewing on your skull. Deadhand, I think his name was. The one in the well. That was nightmare fuel, right there. The lengths I went though just to avoid those monsters is amazing you have no idea.

Giygas! I found him more unsettling than scary.

However, The Mad Piano and the Chain Chomp from Super Mario 64 were the only things that really scared me from a video game, though Pikmin 1 and 2 has some unsettling enemies...

The long arms man from Fatal Frame. I work in a hotel and at night I have to walk the whole building alone. I haven't played fatal frame in years and I'm a grown ass woman but sometimes, just as I'm getting ready to round a corner, I'll get the WORST feeling that he's like, RIGHT THERE and I run back down all the flights of stairs back to the lobby where I can be safe in my office. It's totally pathetic haha.

RE4, twin Garradors.

My brother's the one playing, he's saying 'they're really not that hard, it's okay', and I have my eyes shut tight like a wuss the whole time he's fighting them.

There were a few moments in that game that could get to me, even if there were also a fair few that I found utterly hilarious instead.

Could not deal with the demo video for Amnesia.

Certain types of enemies often tend to get me worked up into hands-locked-and-unable-to-move hyperventilation mode, in survival horror stuff. Not based on how they look, or even what sounds they make, but based on how they move. If they're fast and spidery, I have to hand the controller off to someone else and take a breather. Other types of enemies, I'm the one saying 'I got this!' and taking over with the killing, and some of it depends on the style of gameplay as well, but yeah... rule of thumb tends to be 'if I have to shoot at something that reminds me of a spider, and it might dodge my bullets and kill me with its spider powers, then I am not playing this game anymore'.

Really showing my age here, but did anyone ever play the old PC CD-ROM game for the old Nick show Are You Afraid of the Dark?

I was already a jumpy little kid, and things could just jump up and chase you if you merely touched them. I couldn't finish the game when I was little, and my siblings report many bouts of literally running from the game in tears.

I beat it recently just to put the whole thing to bed, but I nearly shut the damn thing off for good when I heard a ghost wailing "Save me or I'll bleed forever!"

Nightmare House 2. Just... Nightmare House 2...
It's not even so much that it's directly scary (which it is to me, I'm a sucker for things popping out of nowhere), but the sounds, bloodstains, and dead bodies that can possibly awaken makes me so paranoid.
I almost forgot mannequins and shadows. I hate them. On so many levels.

You can skip parts. I know I skip Ravenholm a lot. It just creeps me out.

Also, the Crade in Thief: Deadly Shadows creeped me out. In another area of the game, I came across a corpse. Didn't look like the (slow) zombies from the previous games, so I just walked over. It jumped up in my face, snarled, and chased me fast. I about fell out of my chair and panic quickloaded.

I was never scared of the giants, but I did hate fighting them.

I did hate that one regenerator you had to fight though; it was the one filled with needles that kinda glitched with every step it took.

The way it looked didn't even wig me out, just the glitched walking. Anything that has a kinda glitchy way of walking creeped me out.

Oh and being chases. Oh god dat chase scene in Curse of Cthulhu... I shat myself.

Resident Evil 4. It was my first horror game, so it scared the hell out of me the first times. But the very worst scare of them all was when I had finally survived the mob at the village, with the chainsaw guy and all that. So I walk around looking for loot, expecting something to jump out at me at any moment. Then BAM! A chicken flies up behind me. I had to lie down for a bit after that, that chicken was by far the scariest thing ever.

I can't stand being chased by things, either.

Also, even though I've never played it and have only watched playthroughs...Ao Oni. It's a 2D style game, but there's a creepy purple troll thing that starts chasing you. Sometimes, it's hard to get away. If I played it, I'd only get stressed out and not scared.
